OUR STORY

Grateful Pies was inspired by the French-Canadian tourtière, a pie first baked in Quebec in the 17th century and shared from family to family at celebrations. More than just food, tourtière has always been a symbol of survival, gratitude, and togetherness—its spirit tied to tradition, adaptability, and joy.

For our founder, Farika, tourtière is the taste of home. Growing up in Canada, it was always there on the Christmas Eve table, rich with memory and meaning. When she moved to London over 35 years ago, far from the family table, Farika began baking her grandmother’s recipe to create new memories with her chosen family and friends.

Over time, the recipe was reimagined—made plant-based, wrapped in a crisp short-crust pastry, and paired with a rich vegan gravy. The pie carries the Canadian heritage; the gravy reflects the British love of sauce with savoury pies. Together, they honour both traditions while creating something new.

At its heart, Grateful Pies is more than a recipe. It’s a tradition reimagined, a pie with provenance, and a reminder that one pie really does fit all.
